Have you ever asked yourself this question, “why do I struggle with following God’s will?” Well here are a few questions to ask yourself before you can answer the above question.
- Has your walk with God become a practice rather than a passion?
I have seen many people serve because we, as Christians, are called to but they have no passion to serve. It’s almost like a chore for them. Our walks with God should never be a chore but rather a passion to know God more and to serve Him wherever He has called us to serve. We must check our hearts to see if there is anything that is hindering our passion for God, which brings me to the next question.
2. Is there something that is hindering me from following God?
As Christians we must check our heart, soul, and mind. It is so easy to get caught up in or get distracted from other things. We must ask ourselves is our heart in the right place? Is our soul longing for God? Am I thinking pure and holy thoughts? Everyday we should be checking ourselves to be making sure that we are living by God’s standards for our lives. Now of course no one is perfect, however we should strive to live up to God’s standards to the best of our abilities. And now for the final question.
3. Who or what is being my main influence?
As Christians we know that we are to not be of this world, which means we must be aware of who and what is influencing us. I have had friends in the past that I enjoyed being around but they were not spiritually edifying so the Lord intervened and separated us and I willingly accepted this new change. And because I accepted the change, God blessed me with more spiritually edifying friendships. However, the people around us are not the only things influencing us. There is so much garbage out there on TV and in the music industry. People twist the word of God or making fun of our Lord and Savior. We must always be in the word so that we can properly equip ourselves for whatever we face. This world longs for us to stray away from God’s will.
Now, after you have answered these three questions, you are finally ready to answer our first question because you have now examined your walk with God. You now understand where you’re falling short. When you understand exactly where your walk is then you’re able to understand why you are struggling with following God’s will.
Something key to think about is remembering who God is. God’s will is the perfect will for your life. God understands who you are and would never lead you down a road that was going to be more than you could handle. He loves you and wants to see you grow in Him. Trust God and have faith in Him. Even through all the heartache and frustration, God is still there. All you have to do is call on Him and He will answer.
