Prayer Is Key

Thessalonians 5:16-18: “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

Prayer is a huge aspect of a Christians life. Prayer is our direct access to our Heavenly Father. Within this scripture there are three important things that are part of God’s will for our lives. Without prayer we would be unable to fulfill these three things the way God desires us to.

Rejoice Always

Regardless of what is going on, a Christian will always find joy no matter how great and bad life is. Christian joy is not based on the circumstance you are in but rather a growing awareness of who God is and the certain future of eternal life that we will have with Christ. However, at times it is a struggle to find joy. Especially when it feels like nothing is going the way you wanted it to. I always struggle with joy when I’m feeling sad or frustrated, which is why I must pray and ask God for help to find the joy in whatever I am going through. He wants us to talk things through with Him so that we may find joy. Happiness is just a feeling but joy can only come from God and if we pray to Him, He will give us the joy that the Lord desires for us to have.

Pray Without Ceasing

When I think of praying without ceasing I think very literally like God is telling you to constantly be praying. However, this is not what God is talking about. God wants us to be persistent and consistent in our prayer life. This means to have a prayer life where you are consistently praying and seeking God for everything. He wants us to pray whenever there is something to be thankful about or when you’re feeling completely lost and afraid. He wants us to talk to Him about everything whether it’s good, bad, ugly, sad, or happy. I pray a lot to God but I know I could still do a lot better. Sure I pray to God when I’ve been blessed with something or when I need His guidance but I personally need to be praying and thanking Him for everything in my life from being blessed to have another day of life to praying that He would give me guidance in a difficult situation. When we pray to God we must ask Him for the willingness and guidance in prayer. Only God can show us that right balance in prayer.

In Everything Give Thanks

As sinful human beings it is hard to give thanks in everything. When something bad happens our immediate response is sulk, complain, or get angry. And when something great happens we forget to praise God for what He has done. But God wants us not as sinners but as Christians to give Him thanks no matter what the circumstance is. Nothing speaks more powerfully to others of a walk with God than continuous thankfulness. It’s is just like our situation with joy. We must seek the Lord and ask Him to help us to be thankful in everything not thankful for everything. Now I’m not going to lie to you, there are going to be times when we don’t want to be thankful for what is going on. However, we must remember that God has purpose and plan for our lives which includes the struggles we face. Not everyday will be warm and fuzzy but if we learn to be thankful no matter what then the hard days will get easier.

In conclusion, I hope that you have recognized that prayer is key to fulfilling God’s will for our lives. Prayer is not just a request but a conversation with God. It is our direct access to our Lord and Savior. We must pray to Him to help us find joy, to help us pray in the right manner, and to help us give thanks IN all things no matter the circumstances. I honestly pray this helps you understand the Lord’s will for your life. That your prayer life becomes stronger.
